David Jones
Founder

An early starter, David started flying at 15 via the ATC, gaining his license at 17. He gave up his job as a Management Development Manager to work full time in aviation, ending up as Chief Flying Instructor / Director of Flight Ops – TRE / IRE at Bristol Flying Centre for nine years specialising in Instructor Training and Initial Instrument Rating Training, during which time at the age of 30 he became the UK’s youngest Flying Instructor Examiner (FIE). He then went on to join Air Hanson as their Training Captain flying all Raytheon Beechcraft types from single engine through to Turbo Props and Corporate Jets.

However, yearning for a challenge found David flying with Police Aviation Services as their Fixed Wing Training Captain. During this period he was responsible for all fixed wing operations and training throughout the UK, he also flew in the Caribbean working with the DEA and various Police agencies in anti-drugs and illegal immigration. On his return he attended the short course at the International Test Pilot School (ITPS) at Woodford flying the Jet Provost, BAe 146 and the Slingsby Firefly.

He is a Senior Examiner for the CAA and a strong advocate of UPRT for corporate and private pilots having attended numerous “Upset” courses with APS in Arizona flying the Extra, A4 Swept Wing Skyhawk and SIA-Marchetti S211 he has also attended the advanced upset course at the National Test Pilot School in Mojave, USA and now runs basic and advanced UPRT courses at Kemble (EGBP) or Henstridge (EGHS) on the Bulldog and Yak 52.

Examinair specialises in Beech B350 and Beech 90-200 King Air training and can complete base training on all types for the purpose of initial licence application in addition to company OPC’s / LPC’s and recurrent training.

With over 20,000hrs, he is an FI / FIE / CRE / IRE / TRE / SFE. He is also an Upper Freeman of the Honourable Company of Air Pilots (Formally GAPAN) and is a coach for the Light Aircraft Association on their Pilot Coaching Scheme.

Day job is as Captain on Corporate jets and Turboprops, but still loves Instructing, Examining and Aerobatics…his love of which has seen him recently join TeamYakovlevs as one of their display pilots.
